Benue Executive Council approves N30.29bn for rural roads
Benue State Executive Council has approved N30, 290, 825, 632.09, representing 60% as counterpart fund for the construction of five rural roads which will run through nine local governments in the three senatorial districts of the state.
The remaining 40% will be contributed by the affected local government councils.
The council, which met on Monday, also approved the release of N567,519,426.53 as compensation to owners of land used for the construction of Federal Housing Authority Estate at Mbagwa area of Makurdi.
In addition, the state executive council has approved the establishment of the Benue State Signage and Advertising Agency.
It further gave its nod for the domestication of the Disability Act to give equal opportunity to people living with disabilities in the state. The law, when domesticated will lead to the establishment of an agency for people with disabilities and provide penalties for any act of discrimination against them.
The Council, which observed a minute silence in honour of late Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, also
donated N10 million to the state branch of the Nigeria Legion for the 2024 Armed Forces Rememberance Day. The state will send a high powered delegation to Lagbaja’s funeral on Friday in Abuja.
Meanwhile, Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia has lifted the suspension of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Fidelis Bensen Mnyim, who was earlier suspended from office for joining the state in a suit over the legality of federal anti-corruption agencies without seeking the approval of the governor.
