PDP spent N7.93 bn on conventions, campaigns in 2023

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spent  N7.93 billion on conventions, campaigns in 2023, a report on its finances has indicated.

The party in its 2023 audited financial report submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), indicated that it generated N11.5 billion from the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms, as well as from levies and dues from aspirants and officeholders, between February and March 2023.

Of this amount, N7.9 billion was allocated to fund state congresses, the national convention, and various campaigns during the 2023 general elections.

The bulk of the money was generated from the sale of Presidential, Senatorial, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly forms

A total of N3.1 billion was utilised for state congresses and the national convention, , N1.7 billion distributed to states and candidates participating in the elections, and N72.07 million for allowances to party agents.

The report also showed that N233.4 million was spent on training, workshops, and lectures, N166.5 million as personnel costs, and N27.7 million on hiring of buses.

Other expenditure included travel expenses, including aircraft charters at  N693 million, and N370 million spent on door-to-door mobilization of voters.

The report, prepared by the party’s Director of Finance, Ismaila Yunusa Alkali, was signed by Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, and Thomas Segun from T.O Thomas and Co., Certified Accountants, the audit firm.
