Katsina Govt Earmarks N682Bn For 2025 Fiscal Year
Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has presented the state’s 2025 budget of N682.24 billion to the State House of Assembly for its approval.
The budget, presented on Monday, has N157.96 billion, representing 23.15%, for recurrent expenditure and N524.27 billion, representing 76.85%, earmarked for capital projects.
The 2025 proposed budget represents a significant increase of 40% over the previous year’s budget of N200.53 billion.
Education got the highest allocation of N95,99 billion; Agriculture and Livestock Development, N81.84 billion; Works, Housing, and Transport, N9.684 billion; Rural and Social Development, N58.72 billion; Water Resources, N53.83 billion; Environment, N49.83 billion; Health, N43.88 billion; and Internal Security and Home Affairs, N18.93 billion, while other sectors share N230.75 billion.
In his speech before the lawmakers, Governor Radda expressed satisfaction with the overall performance of the 2024 budget.
He disclosed key achievements of the 2024 budgets to include, improved access to basic services, enhanced Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), and implementation of numerous projects across various sectors.
He also highlighted the government’s successes in addressing insecurity, stating that bandits have been pushed to the fringes and normalcy has been restored to many local government areas.
Governor Radda expressed optimism about the 2025 budget’s potential to drive economic growth and improve the lives of Katsina State residents.
He emphasised that the 2025 budget is designed to build on the successes of the previous year and further drive the state’s development agenda.
The Katsina Governor acknowledged the contributions of development partners, civil servants, and security personnel in the state’s development efforts.
He also expressed gratitude to the judiciary, the Executive Council, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and security agencies for their support and contributions.
The governor paid tribute to security personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty, offering condolences to their families, and assured that the government remained committed to the welfare of their families.
He thanked the State House of Assembly for their continued support, and urged them to expedite the passage of the 2025 budget, to enable the government deliver on its promises to the people.
Responding, the Speaker, Katsina State House of Assembly, Nasir Yahaya Daura, assured that the 8th Assembly will conduct a thorough analysis of the 2025 budget and approve accordingly.
The Speaker stressed that the Assembly will undertake rigorous oversight to monitor the implementation of developmental projects outlined in the budget, to ensure that they translate into tangible benefits for the people of Katsina State.
He commended Governor Radda for fostering harmonious relationship with the legislative and judicial arms of government.
He also spoke on the securty situation of the state, saying estimate for security in the budget was a demonstration of the governor’s “strong intention to combat crime and protect the lives and property of citizens across the state.”
