The Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has confirmed that the Port Harcourt Refinery in Rivers State has commenced crude oil processing.
This is coming after seven missed deadlines for the commencement of production.
The NNPCL had set multiple dates for the refinery’s operation, including promises made in March, August, and September 2024, all of which failed to materialise.
On Tuesday, the company’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Femi Soneye, said crude processing had commenced at the refinery.
“Today marks a monumental achievement for Nigeria as the Port Harcourt Refinery officially commences crude oil processing. This groundbreaking milestone signifies a new era of energy independence and economic growth for our nation,” Soneye said.
He also said truck loading will also commence today.
According to him, NNPCL is also “working tirelessly to bring the Warri Refinery back online soon”.
