2 year old, 3 other children abducted in Kaduna regain freedom

The four children, including a 2-year-old toddler, who were kidnapped in Keke ‘A’ area of Kaduna a week ago, have been released.

A statement issued on Monday by Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State said the children were handed over to him by Malam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser.

“I have reunited the children with their parents. The release of the children is one of the key outcomes of the peace agreement brokered by the Peace Dialogue Group established by the Kaduna State Government in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser,” the Governor said.

The children were abducted from their home on November 26, when their father left them to visit his wife, who was taking care of their sick twins admitted to a nearby hospital.

The abductors later contacted the victims’ father, Adamu Yunusa, and demanded N300 million ransom, threatening to kill the children if the ransom was not paid.

The bandits also threatened to kill the toddler for crying.

The father later told newsmen that the bandits had reduced the ransom to N25 million.

“They have reduced the ransom from N300 million to now N25 million. So we are still negotiating. I spoke to two of the children yesterday (Sunday) and they told me they are well. May God ease our pains,” he said.

Governor Uba Sani described the release of the children a testament that “the Kaduna Peace Model is up and running.”
