Jigawa to Establish Independent Power Station In 2025

Jigawa State Government has earmarked funds for a mini power station in 2025, the Commissioner, Ministry of Power and Energy, Dr Dr Surajo A. Musa, has said.

Musa said this while depending the ministry’s 2025 budget before the state House of Assembly.

He said that the station would utilise Compress Natural Gas (CNG) to be sited in Dutse

According to him, the power station will supply electricity to Government House, the State Secretariat Complex and House of Assembly.

The commissioner said that in the budget, N30 billion was earmarked for the ministry, N10 billion for Rural Electrification Board, and N1.5 billion for the Alternative Energy Agency.

The commissioner said Jigawa was the first state to domesticate the National Electricity Act which empowers state governments to utilize available resources to generate electricity for internal consumption.

In his remark, the Chairman House Committee on Power, who is also the member representing Kafin Hausa Constituency, Muhammad Na’eem Adamu, commended the government for establishing the ministry, prayed it  impacts positively on the socio-economy of the state.

The Syndicate recalls that Governor Umar Namadi had created the ministry for power and energy, and signed into law the bill creating the Jigawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission passed by the State House of Assembly.

The commission will oversee electricity generation, transmission, system operation, distribution, and supply in the state.

The law aims to enhance electricity access for residents of Jigawa State while fostering an environment conducive to private sector investment in the power industry.

The law supports the development of diverse electricity solutions, including grid, mini-grid, and off-grid systems, utilizing both renewable and non-renewable energy sources to meet the state’s growing energy demand.
