Bandits still controlling communities in Sokoto State, LG Chairman tells Defence Minister

“Here in Isa town, we are living peacefully. The problem is in the eastern part of Isa. There are places that are still under the control of bandits. They appoint and depose village heads there.
“We are appealing for a military camp in Kagara to take care of those areas. We used to have a camp there before it was relocated. That time there was relative peace in those places. So we want the camp back,” he told Matawalle.
The chairman observed that there has been significant reduction in attacks on communities since the security forces took out the notorious bandit, Halilu Sububu, about a month ago.
According to him, the military onslaught has also made it possible to now ply some roads which were hitherto no-go areas.
In his remarks, the minister said the federal government would militarise all the danger areas in the state.
“We are going to creat a military base at Gundumi, the troops will be patrolling Gundumi-Marnona road which has remained closed for years,” he added.
Matawalle assured residents that more troops will be deployed to the area, and called for their support, “because the issue of security is everyone’s business, we’ll need to know about the bandits’ movement”.
