Benue introduces automated performance tracker for students, bars illegal levies

The new Executive Secretary of Benue Education Quality Assurance and Examination Board, Dr Terna Francis, has announced the introduction of an automated performance tracker for all basic education students in the state.
Francis made the announcement on Wednesday in Makurdi during his maiden meeting with principals of public and private schools in the state.
He told the school heads that they must upload the e-Dossier for all learners, a platform to serve as an automated performance tracker to ensure credible record of learners from Basic 1 to Basic 9 and from SS 1 to SS 3.
According to him, the platform will help the board to rank schools by performance and monitor the migration of students at the point of registering for external examinations and eliminate excuses and bring transparency and speed to school operations.
The executive secretary warned the principals against collecting illegal charges and levies, and said the board has automated all payments for its examinations to block loopholes and curve corruption in the system.
He added that, henceforth, any unauthorised collection or handling of funds by staff will attract immediate disciplinary action.

Francis explained that the state governor, Rev, Fr Hyacinth Alia, decision to merge the defunct Examinations Board with the Bureau for Education Quality Assurance was not a cosmetic change, but a total rebirth aimed at efficiency, integrity, and accountability.
“Our examination system had lost credibility. The defunct Benue State Examinations Board, as you well know, became synonymous with corruption, inefficiency, and lost confidence. We witnessed delays in the release of results, years of unissued certificates, irregularities in exam conduct, and a deep erosion of public trust.
“These failures embarrassed our education system and robbed our students of the dignity of genuine assessment. But let me be clear today, those dark days are over.”
The executive secretary said the government has subsidised the cost of registration for BECE and MOCK examinations and the transaction fees from N18,250 to ₦10,250.
He warned that henceforth, no student will be allowed to sit for any external examination without participating in the Mock SSCE.
