The UN says the 16 years of Boko Haram armed conflict in the North East Nigeria, claimed about 4,000 civilian lives in 2025 and displaced thousands as it continues to ravage the area.
The UN stated this in its Media Advisory, ahead of the launch of the 2026 Nigeria Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan billed for Thursday, Jan. 22 in Abuja.
“In 2025, violence by non-state armed groups claimed approximately 4,000 civilian lives in just eight months and displaced thousands.
“The crisis in north-east Nigeria continues, driven by 16 years of armed conflict.”
The event will bring together senior Government officials, including the Federal Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard M. Doro, civil society, national and international partners, and members of the diplomatic corps.
