Justice Omotosho held that based on the evidence provided by the prosecution, the ingredients of terrorism were established in the exhibits against Kanu.

The judge held that the threats of violence issued by Kanu in his broadcasts created fear and anxiety in the minds of members of the public in the Southeast.

“Nnamdi Kanu’s intention was clear — he believed in violence, not dialogue. At no point did he choose the path of peaceful dialogue. The court says his actions amount to terrorism, executed by his followers, and this will become clearer in the judgments that follow.”

The judge noted that Kanu did not take the option to open his defence, adding that he “failed and deliberately refused to give any exculpatory evidence” on the charges brought against him.
