BREAKING: FG bans establishment of new federal tertiary institutions for 7 years

The Federal Government has placed a seven year ban on the creation of new federal educational institutions in the country.
The decision was taken during the Federal Executive Council, FEC meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday.
Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, said while briefing State House Correspondents after the meeting that the moratorium covers all tertiary institutions, including universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
According to him, the government believes that the current challenge in Nigeria’s education sector is no longer about access to tertiary education, citing numerous institutions in the country.
According to him, the FEC has that the duplication of educational institutions, especially at the tertiary level has contributed significantly to the deterioration of infrastructure and manpower in the existing institutions.
“If we do not act decisively, it will lead to marked decline in educational quality and undermine the international respect that Nigerian graduates command,” he asserted.
