BREAKING: Reps Slash Salaries For 6 Months To Avert Hunger Protest

 

The House of Representatives at its sitting on Thursday adopted an amended motion and agree to cut their salaries.They adopted an amendment to a motion moved by the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, on the need for lawmakers to sacrifice 50% of their N600,000 monthly salaries to support Nigerians in view of the hardships in the land.

Kalu’s amended prayer was added to the main motion moved by Rep Isiaka Ayokunle calling on proponents of the planned nationwide protests to jettison the idea and engage the government in dialogue.

The lawmakers said that money should be used to support government efforts at reducing the spiralling cost of foodstuffs in the country.

The motion was unanimously adopted and referred to the committees on Humanitarian Affairs, and that of Finance and Appropriation, for compliance.
