Buni approves N100m to support Yobe flood victims

In a quick response to the devastating floods affecting Yobe State, Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved the release of N100 million to support victims of the flood in 323 communities.
The floods impacted nearly 12,000 households, leading to 29 deaths and over 274 injuries.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Idi Barde Gubana, visited the worst-hit communities in Nguru, Karasuwa, and Nangere, where he announced the release of the money.
He said that the money would be shared based on the severity of the damage in each area.
The governor said N50 million was earmarked for Nguru, N30 million for Karasuwa, and N20 million for Nangere.
Buni said government would also provide essential food and non-food items to the affected families, and directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to ensure swift distribution of the items.
Governor Buni also reassured the affected communities of his administration’s dedication to addressing the root causes of flooding, adding that the government plans to embark on the construction of reservoirs, earth dams, and water channels to mitigate future flooding risks.
“Consultants are currently finalizing their assessments, with work expected to commence shortly after,” he said.
The Emir of Nguru, Alhaji Mustapha Ibn Galadima, and the Mai Tikau, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Muhammad Grema, pledged to support the government in achieving set objectives.
In Nangere, the governor reaffirmed government commitment to constructing a dam in Kanda to protect the region and enhance agricultural productivity.
