Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has commended a philanthropist, Alhaji Balarabe Abdullahi DJ, for constructing a model settlement for pastoralists in Nguru.

The Syndicate reports that the Ruga settlement consists of two-bedroom residential houses, a school, shopping centre, primary healthcare centre, potable water electricity, and a mosque, among other facilities designed to support decent and sustainable living.

The pastoralits settlement is located about seven kilometres from Nguru town.

“I must commend and appreciate Alhaji Balarabe on behalf of the good people of this community, Nguru Local Government, Yobe State, and indeed Nigeria, for his exemplary service,” the governor said.

“We have seen the transformative multiplier effect of his initiative—particularly the school, the clinic, and the housing provided for the Ruga settlement. This is highly commendable.”

He urged wealthy people in the state to emulate the initiative and invest more in projects and programmes that would have positive impact on the socio-economic life of the people.

Meanwhile, Governor Buni has commissioned a Sesame seed processing factory in Machina, built by the state government.

Yobe State is Nigeria’s largest producer of sesame, accounting for a significant portion of the country’s total production.

Yobe’s sesame is ranked by traders and agronomists among the finest in the country, and is prized for its oil content, uniform grain size, and low impurity levels.

The Machina factory is one out of the four ultra-modern sesame processing factories established by the government to boost Sesame production in the state.

The others are located in Potiskum, Damaturu, and Nguru, and are aimed at increasing the state’s annual production to over 60,000 tonnes.
