By-election: Jigawa PDP rejects Babura/Garki federal constituency result

By: Ahmed Aminu, Dutse

The Jigawa state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has rejected the outcome of Saturday’s Babura/Garki federal constituency by-election.

This was contained in a press statement made available to The Syndicate in Dutse by the state Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Umar Kyari Jitau.

He said the PDP strongly rejected “in totality”, the conduct and outcome for the by-election.

According to him, the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, “used state power and indulged heavily in vote buying, intimidation and harassment of the voters during the exercise.

“PDP is therefore calling on its entire supporters in the state as well as lovers of democracy to remain calm as it takes all necessary measures to re-claim it’s stolen mandate given to APC during last Saturday’s election”.

In the result declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Professor Salisu Ibrahim, APC won the by-election with 38,449 votes to beat PDP, which garnered 13,519 votes, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), 2,931 votes.
