Coalition backs out of hunger strike in Jigawa

Less than 24 hours to the commencement of the nationwide protest against bad governance, a coalition of 50 associations in Jigawa said it would not join the protest.
Comrade Aminu Aminu, chairman of the coalition, said at a press conference in Dutse on Wednesday that the Youth and Civil Society Coalition For Development (YCSD) took the decision during its executive council meeting.
“We took the decision after careful consideration of the need for peace and security in Nigeria”, he said, adding that in spite of the present hardships, “the protest will not be a solution to it”.
According him, they are also apprehensive to the possibilities of hoodlums and criminals hijacking the protest to loot and destroy public and private properties.
“For this reason and others, including our conviction on the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to bring lasting solutions to the problems, we agreed and resolved not to participate in the protest,” Aminu added.
He urged Nigerian youths not to join the protest, but engage constructive dialogue with government to address their concerns.
He also appealed to governments at all level to speed up plans, policies and strategies to bring succour to Nigerians.
