Contributory Pension: Yobe Govt. To Dialogue With Labour, Others
Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni says he will discuss with labour unions and other stakeholders before introducing the contributory pension scheme for state and local government employees.
Buni stated this on Thursday when the management of the National Pension Commission, PenCom, paid him a courtesy visit.
He said the dialogue would ensure that government, labour unions and civil servants were the same page with regards to the scheme.
“One important thing is to create a better understanding, acceptance and workability of the scheme.
“There should also be a law to serve as a legal instrument to institutionalise the scheme and ensure consistency,” the governor said.
Earlier, the Director General of PenCom, Ms. Omolola Oloworaran, said the visit was to canvas for the institutionalisation of the contributory pension scheme in the state.
She urged the government to enact a law to that effect, and quickly migrate civil servants in the state into the pension scheme.
According to Oloworaran, the scheme would guarantee better future for civil servants after retirement.
She commended Buni for his pragmatic programmes and policies, which has led to the provision of solid infrastructure and improvement of the lives of people in the state.
