Dangote refinery begins production
Dangote Refinery, the world’s largest single-train refinery located in Lagos, Nigeria, has commenced production.
Mr Anthony Chiejina, Dangote Group Head of Corporate Communications, made the announcement in a statement on Friday.
Chiejina said that the company started production in the early hours of Friday,
“The refinery started production after receiving six million barrels of crude oil from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd,” he said. .
The Syndicate recalls that Managing Director of Dangote Ports Operations, Akin Omole, had a week ago informed newsmen that the refinery would kick-start operations with the production of diesel, aviation fuel, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas before subsequently progressing to the production of Premium Motor Spirit.
This latest development will help alleviate fuel supply challenges in Nigeria and other West African countries.
Designed for 100 per cent Nigerian crude with the flexibility to process other crudes, the 650,000 barrels per day refinery can process most African crude grades as well as Middle Eastern Arab Light and US Light light oil as well as crude from other countries.
The refinery can meet 100 per cent of Nigeria’s requirement of refined gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation jet, aas well as have enough for export.
