Dangote’s Okpella Cement Bags Best Employer Award

Dangote’s Okpella Cement Limited has bagged the 2024 Best Contributory Employer Award in Edo State.

The award, presented by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) at the weekend, was in recognition of the company’s significant contributions to job creation and workforce development in Edo State and Nigeria.

The Syndicate reports that the award came shortly after the company secured the Integrated Management System (IMS) Certification from the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) in recognition of its commitment to global excellence in quality, environmental and safety standards.

The Head of Training, ITF Benin Area Office, Mr. Ernest Nwachukwu, presented the 2024 Best Contributory Employer Award to the Plant Director, Engr. Mohammed Ismaeel at the company’s premises in Okpella.

In his remarks, Mr. Nwachukwu described Okpella Cement Limited as the highest-performing company in Edo state, especially in the area of industrial training and workforce development.

Responding, Engr. Ismaeel said the award is a validation of the company’s strategic and proactive approach to job creation.

“It shows that our leadership style aligns perfectly with the state and national objective of building a skilled and employable workforce. This award is not merely for hiring people, but for creating a sustainable system where job opportunities can thrive and evolve.”

He dedicated the award to every member of staff of the company who have continued to demonstrate strong commitment to its growth.

Engr. Ismaeel said the company has established new benchmark for industrial excellence through its collaboration with the ITF.

“Through our collaboration with the ITF, the Okpella plant has established a new benchmark for industrial excellence and corporate citizenship, making a significant contribution to the skilled talent pool within Edo State and the wider Nigerian economy.”

“By investing in continuous training, we are not just filling vacancies; we are enhancing the quality and sustainability of every job. We are equipping our workforce with future-proof skills, making them more adaptable and innovative,” he added.

According to him, ‘prestigious’ award reflects the plant’s steadfast commitment to upskilling local talent and supporting sustainable economic growth through strategic investment in human capital development.

He assured that the honour would spur the company to do more to the nation’s economy while maintaining global excellence in its operations.
