Dutse Emirate distributes N47m Zakkat to needy persons

Dutse Emirate Council in Jigawa has distributed proceeds of Zakat worth over N47 million to the needy in the area.
The Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Hamim Muhammad-Nuhu, who inaugurated the exercise on Tuesday in Dutse said a total of 4,301 less privileged persons benefitted from the gesture.
He promised to sustain the Zakkat collection in the emirate as initiated by his late father, Dr Muhammad Nuhu-Sanusi.
The emir said payment of Zakkat is a core religious obligation for Muslims, and was meant to reduce poverty and promote a sense of belonging in the society.
Muhammad-Nuhu commended those who voluntarily gave oout Zakkat in support of the needy, and rged wealthy persons in the area to always support the vulnerable in the society to reduce poverty and acrimony.
He also commended district, village and ward heads for their efforts in the collection of the Zakkat in their respective domains.
Earlier, the Chairman of Zakkat Collection and Distribution Committe of the emirate, Dr Mahmud Yunusa, said the Zakkat was distributed simultaneously in all the 28 districts under the emirate.
Yunusa added that the Zakkat consisted of cash, livestock and grains, and urged the beneficiaries to make good use of it improve their livelihoods.
The chairman also urged them to pray for those that gave out the Zakkat in the communities.
Some of the beneficiaries, Muhammad Sani and Hadiza Lawan thanked the emirate for the gesture.
