Dutse Federal Varsity VC Assumes Duty, Rolls Out 11-Point Agenda

Professor Ahmad Muhammed Gumel has formally assumed office as the third substantive Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Dutse (FUD), pledging to build on the gains of the outgoing administration through an ambitious 11-point strategic agenda.
Gumel made the pledge on Monday during his inauguration at the Nuhu Muhammed Sunusi Auditorium, where he unveiled plans aimed at repositioning the university in line with national priorities and global best practices in higher education.
Addressing the gathering, the new Vice-Chancellor said academic excellence would remain the cornerstone of his administration, stressing the need to review and modernise existing curricula to respond to emerging trends in digital learning.
He announced plans to introduce several market-driven and interdisciplinary programmes, including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Science and Analytics, Networking and Cloud Computing, Project Management, Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Geology, Climate-Smart Agriculture, Optometry, Physiotherapy, Community Health, Science Education and Business Education.
Professor Gumel said his administration would also prioritise research and innovation, digital transformation, student welfare and empowerment, staff development, financial sustainability, global partnerships, community engagement, institutional governance and accountability, as well as environmental sustainability.
He reiterated a long-term vision to transform the Federal University Dutse into a leading hub for research-driven solutions and a centre of excellence in agriculture, science, technology, management and the humanities by 2030.
According to him, the mission of his leadership is to foster an environment that promotes academic rigour, knowledge creation and the free exchange of ideas, while producing graduates who are employable, innovative and committed to national development.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdulkarim Sabo Mohammed, for his mentorship and leadership, noting that his guidance played a significant role in his professional growth.
He also thanked the university’s fourth Governing Council, chaired by Professor Shu’aibu Oba Abdul Raheem, for the confidence reposed in him, assuring members that he would justify their trust.
Professor Gumel acknowledged Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi’s sustained interest in the growth of the university, as well as the solidarity and dedication of the university staff throughout the selection process.
