EFCC arrests groom hours to his wedding in Akure
A man has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) hours to his wedding in Akure.
An eyewitness said that the groom-to-be and his friends were bundled into EFCC vehicles after they were hounded out of a bachelor’s eve party they were holding at about 1am on Saturday.
The EFCC operatives had raided several lounges and event centres in the Alagbaka area of Akure, Ondo State, during which they took away over 50 individuals on the pretext that they were involved in internet fraud.
The EFCC operatives reportedly arrived the area in multiple vehicles around 1 am, firing shots into the air and scaring people.
“They proceeded to confiscate numerous vehicles, laptops, high-end phones, and other items,” another eyewitness said.
“They were entering the nightclubs and lounges, tear-gassing people, beating them up, and arresting them.
“They also went away with a groom and his friends at a club; he was there for his bash eve, so sad as they profiled everyone as Internet fraudster.”
