Essa Tanker Explosion: Niger State Govt Treating 50 Survivors Free  

Niger State government is paying for comprehensive free medical care to the 50 survivors of Essa tanker explosion, a government official said on Wednesday.

About 50 injured persons are receiving medical attention for burns, and inhalation-related injuries at various health facilities including Federal Medical Center Bida and the General Hospitals in Bida and Agaie.

Those severely burnt are being treated at the National Hospital Abuja, Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital, and Federal Medical Center Jabi.

Dr Murtala Bagana, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, who led a government delegation to visit the victims in some of the hospitals, said the state government has also provided drugs and medical supplies worth over N10 million to support the hospitals.

He also presented cash donations to the affected families receiving care in the hospitals.

Bagana commended the management of the FMC Bida for swiftly responding professionally to care for the victims.

He also appreciated emergency responders, Ministry of Health, Katcha Local Government Authority, the House of Representatives member representing Bida/Gbako/Katcha Federal Constituency, Alhaji Saidu Musa Abdullahi, for jointly coordinating the rescue and medical operations. Abdullahi provided the ambulances used in evacuating critical patients to tertiary hospitals in Abuja.

A mass burial for the deceased victims has been conducted in Katcha with a special prayers offered for the repose of their souls and quick recovery for those injured.
