
Ex- Commissioner Umar Doguwa emerges as Kano APC Chairman
A former member of the Kano State Executive Council, Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa,has been elected as the new State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC).
Doguwa was elected alongside other executives of the party at the State Congress held at the Sani Abacha Indoor Sports Hall,Kano.
The former Kano State Commissioner for Water Resources and all other new executives of the party,were returned elected through consensus.
In the election conducted by a team of officials from the APC national headquarters in Abuja, Doguwa alongside the other new executives of the party,were returned elected through a voice-vote affirmation by the 2,420 delegates drawn from the 44 local government areas of the party in the state.
Other officials elected during the exercise included Salisu Maje Ahmed Gwangwazo, State Deputy Chairman, Prof. Yusuf Mohammed Bichi,State Secretary, and Fatima Dala, State Woman Leader.
The rest included Nura Yaro,Assistant Secretary, Abdul Adamu (SAN),Legal Adviser, Farouq Abdullahi Garo,Financial Secretary, Salisu Yahaya,Youth Leader and Abubakar Salisu, Auditor.
The election was supervised by an INEC team led by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner,Amb.Abdu Zango.
The newly-elected officials were immediately sworn in before the party’s stakeholders whom included Gov. Abba Yusuf, and the Deputy President of the Senate, Sen. Barau Jibrin.
In his acceptance speech,Doguwa promised to work with all stakeholders of the party to ensure its victory in the 2027 general elections.
The immediate past Chairman of the party, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, in his farewell remarks,thanked Allah(SWT) for giving him the opportunity alongside the other outgone executives,to lead the party to greatness.
“I thank Allah(SWT) for giving me the rare opportunity to lead our great party in the state to greater heights for ten years.I also thank our former Governor,Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, for the opportunity,as well as other stakeholders of our great party,which enabled me to lead the APC successfully,” Abbas said.
In his remarks, Yusuf congratulated the new executives and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by working to consolidate the party’s gains and ensure its victory in all elections in the state.
