Excitement As Uba Sani Resumes Work On Abandoned Roads In Zaria, Sabon Gari

Residents of Zaria and Sabon Gari Local Government Areas in Kaduna State are excited as contractors resume work on road projects in the area that were abandoned since 2011.
The resumption of work on the abandoned road projects was ordered by Governor Uba Sani.
Mallam Danjuma Isa, a resident of Unguwar Hauwa in Sabon Gari, expressed happiness with the development, saying residents had suffered unduly especially during the rainy season.
“This will ease our daily struggles and improve connectivity in the community,” he said.
Another resident, Abubakar Mansur expressed gratitude for the progress so far, urging the government to ensure timely completion.
“This road has been a nightmare for years. We are hopeful this time it will be different,” Mansur said.
Rasheed Idris, the member representing Sabon Gari constituency in the state House of Assembly, also commended the reenergising of the road projects.
He said when completed, the roads will decongest Sokoto Road and ease linkage to Zaria LGA.
He said “This project was initiated in 2011 but stalled due to challenges. It’s an honor that it will now be completed during my tenure.”
Aminu Abdullahi Shagali, Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, expressed a personal connection to the project.
“This initiative began during my time in the Kaduna State House of Assembly in 2011. It is heartwarming to see it finally nearing completion.
“The ongoing construction aligns with Governor Sani’s directive to prioritize both inherited and new projects across the state,” he said.
Shagali said that the residents are hopeful that this development would lead to a new era of infrastructure growth and improved livelihoods.
During an inspection visit, the Managing Director of Kaduna State Roads Agency (KADRA), Dr. Abdullahi Baba Ahmed, assured that the government was committed to completing the projects.
He said that the Unguwar Hauwa and Dogo Bauchi Roads will be completed within four and 12 weeks, respectively.
“The Governor has ensured adequate funding, so there are no financial constraints. This administration is committed to making Kaduna a hub of construction activity across all three senatorial zones.
“These roads are critical, not just for Sabon Gari but also for neighbouring areas and states, as they serve as key connections to regions like Jos,” he added.
Dr. Ahmed revealed that the previous administration paid only 20% of the contracts’ fees, a situation which led to the abandonment of the projects.
According to him, Governor Uba Sani has already approved the payment of the remaining 80% to the contractors which will be disbursed without delay.
