Female Doctor Regains Freedom 10 Months After Abduction 

She was abducted together with her husband and a nephew from their residence in Kaduna.

While her husband was released on March 8, 2024, Ganiyat who works with the National Eye Centre in Kaduna, and her cousin, spent 10 months in captivity.

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) had twice gone on strike to push government to secure her release.

The female doctor and her nephew were released on Wednesday evening by their captors, the President of NARD, Tope Zenith Osundara, said.

“Yes, it is true. It happened today (Wednesday). For now, we have insulated her away from people, we only allow very limited access to her,” Osundara added.

“No ransom was paid at all” to secure her release, he said.
