FG Restates Commitment To Safeguarding Schools From Bandits

The federal government has restated its commitment to safeguarding schools from attacks by bandits and other terrorists.
The Head of Training of National Safe School Response Coordination Center, Joseph A Shuaibu, made the commitment on Wednesday in Dutse during the opening of a three-day training on Safe School Response Coordination, organised for security personnel in Jigawa state.
He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is deeply committed to protecting all schools in the country, particularly in northern states, from such attacks.
On the training, Shuaibu said it is aimed at enhancing safety in schools and drilling all coordinators and desk officers in the state on their responsibilities.
“This training designed to strengthen participants’ ability to ensure secure learning environments. It is part of the NSCDC’s broader efforts to support the Safe School Project and align with the Federal Government’s Safe Schools Declaration,” he added.
He said the training aimed to equip participants with the latest skills, technologies, innovation and collaboration in addressing the evolving risks faced by schools for better and effective protection of school children, teachers and school buildings.
Shuaibu said the training is being supported by development partners and sisters security agencies.
“As you are aware, the Nigerian government is a signatory of the Safe School Declaration, so the main essence is to ensure our personnel are conversant with implementation guidelines on the day to day basics.”
On his part, the campaign coordinator, Save the Children International in Jigawa state, Mr. Joseph Apeh commended the federal and Jigawa state governments for their investing hugely on the rights and welfare of children.
Apeh, who is also a resource person in the training, said Save the Children International supported by European Union has contributed to the implementation and promotion of the Safe School Declaration in Jigawa state and Nigeria.
“The goal of whole thing is that our school children would remain safe to be able to learn in peace without any threat”.
