Financial Autonomy: RMAFC, Jigawa LG Chairmen in Close Door Meeting

Hajiya Hauwa Umar Aliyu, a commissioner with the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission has met behind closed doors with the 27 local government chairmen in Jigawa state.
The meeting, which lasted for about two hours, was held at the for local government in Dutse.
The meeting also had in attendance, the chairman of the state board of internal revenue.
Hajiya Hauwa told newsmen after the meeting that it was to brief the chairmen on the activities of the RMAFC.
The commissioner, who is representing Jigawa state in the commission, said that the meeting had nothing to do with the financial autonomy of local councils.
“Part of my work has to do with dealing with the local governments, so, I’m here to meet with them, build a good relationship, and tell them what I’m doing in Abuja at Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission as I’m representing them. Any time they are in need of my assistance, support and advise, I’m available”.
She added that the meeting was not in connection with the federal government policy on local government financial autonomy and paying local councils’ federal allocations directly.
“You can just term this visit as an informal meeting. It’s just to see my people, my brothers and see how we can work together for the betterment of our state”.
“I told them what we are doing, what our work is all about and things around that, and to clarify any issue they want to know from my office.”
