A fire outbreak at a grain market in the Gombi area of Adamawa State has destroyed 1,900 bags of grain worth millions of naira.The fire gutted 19 shops in the market on Thursday evening.

It is suspected that the fire might have been ignited by a burning cigarette thrown into the bush behind the shops by an unknown person.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, represented by his deputy, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, was in Gombi on Saturday to sympathise with the victims.

The governor, who visited the palace of the district head of Gombi, Usman Ibrahim Sarkinfada, prayed that such a disaster would nevrr occur again.

Fintiri warned residents to stop setting fire in bushes near residential or business areas, in view of the harmattan season, to avoid such incident.
