First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative empowers women, vulnerable persons in Yobe

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched the distribution of food items to vulnerable groups in Yobe State under the Renewed Hope Initiative.
Represented by the wife of the Vice President, Nana Kashim Shettima, Mrs. Tinubu said the programme is part of a nationwide food outreach designed to cushion the effects of hardship on women, senior citizens, and people with special needs.
She added that about 200 beneficiaries in each of the 36 states will receive similar support.
The First Lady explained that the Renewed Hope Initiative also focuses on empowering women in agriculture through training, provision of start-up kits and resources aimed at boosting agricultural production.
According to her, the scheme aligns with national and state agricultural policies geared towards reducing dependence on food imports.
The wife of the Yobe State Governor and the state coordinator of the initiative, Hajiya Hafsat Mai Mala Buni, expressed gratitude to the First Lady for extending support to vulnerable groups in the state.
She noted that Yobe has keyed into the Renewed Hope Initiative through programmes that provide women and children with household items, skills acquisition, and economic empowerment.
She highlighted the state’s deliberate investment in girl-child education with the establishment of eight girls’ secondary schools, adding that the state recently produced three global champions at the TeenEagle 2025 World Championship in London, namely Nafisa Abdullahi, Rukayya Mohammed Fema, and Khadija Kashim Kalli.
Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by his deputy, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, assured that the state government will continue to partner with the Renewed Hope Initiative to uplift the lives of women and vulnerable persons.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding economic empowerment opportunities across the state.
