Flood Alert: NOA Cautions Communities in 12 Jigawa LGAs

The Nation Orientation Agency (NOA), has urged communities living in flood prone areas in Jigawa State to be vigilant as the rains enter its peak period.

NOA particular cautioned those living along Hadejia river line in 12 local government areas to heed to safety measures so as not to be swept away by the expected flood in the areas.

The warning was contained in a statement made available to The Syndicate in Dutse by the agency’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Miss Sera Ogodo.

“The State Director of the Agency, Malam Ahmad Tijjani Ibrahim reminded the communities and general public that the annual weather forecast indicates that the state is likely to experience heavy rainfall in the comingweeks.

“In line with the weather prediction by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET), the agency has urged citizens especially those residing in lowland areas and communities to be vigilant and always heed to the safety measures as provided by the authority to mitigate the impacts of flood.

“State Director of the Agency reminds the residents that the annual weather forecast indicates that the state is likely to experience heavy rainfalls in the coming weeks”, Ogodo stated.

She added that the flood alert particularly mentioned Miga, Ringim, Hadejia and Dutse LGAs as areas likely to record flooding.

“There is also a report of potential failure of the Tiga Dam in Kano as a result of envisaged excessive rainfall, which invariably will affect a lot of communities and towns in Jigawa state”.

“People must therefore stay informed especially on theneed to be proactive, as this is the only way we can mitigate the impact of the imminent disaster on our communities.”

The agency reaffirmed that it will utilize all  platforms at its disposal towards ensuring that the citizens are informed and educated on how to minimize the impact of the flood.
