Flood Displace 2,634 Residents In Yobe
The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency says 2,634 residents in fourteen communities have been affected by flooding in the state.
According to the Executive Secretary of the agency, Mohammed Goje, the figure include those displaced by the flood in Potiskum, and one person who died.
Goje said that SEMA has been providing life-saving assistance and early recovery support to the flood victims.
According to him, over 600 displaced persons in Potiskum who sought temporary shelter at Sabon Gari Primary School are benefiting from such support, which include feeding, cash and sanitary kits support among others to meet the immediate their immediate shelter and hygiene requirements.
Goje who briefed Director General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar when she visited Potiskum, was told that NEMA had activated an operations office in Maiduguri and had deployed a rescue team to the affected communities in Yobe.
Zubaida said preliminary assessment by NEMA showed 21 communities across five wards were affected by the Potiskum flood, which destroyed most houses, displacing displacing a significant number of residents, mostly women and children.
