FRSC Commander Intercepts Tricycle Conveying 20 Passengers In Katsina
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Katsina State, Mr Maxwell Kaltungo Lede, has intercepted a tricycle conveying 20 passengers on Tuesday in Katsina.
The passengers included breastfeeding mothers and children, Leke said in a statement issued by the command.
According to the statement, the driver of the tricycle with registration number MAN 400 WU, claimed that he assisted the passengers whose vehicle broke down along the road.
Lede, who was on his way to the office when he flagged the tricycle, dismissed the driver’s claim, describing his action as inhumane and a danger to the passengers.
The sector commander cautioned the driver and arranged alternative transportation for the passengers.
“This action underscores the FRSC’s dedication not just to enforcement, but to protecting human lives and promoting safe, dignified transportation,” Lede stated.
He cautioned transport operators against overloading, regardless of the situation, urging them to prioritize passenger safety and comfort.
The sector commander acknowledged the critical role of tricycles in urban and last-mile transportation, especially in areas that are inaccessible to larger vehicles.
He noted that tricycles offer door-to-door services and create employment for youths, mechanics, and vulcanizers—thereby contributing to poverty alleviation.
Lede, however said in spite of that, the tricycle drivers must prioritise passengers safety and dignity.
“While the Corps enforces the law, we also recognize the value tricycles add to the economy. However, this must be balanced with the need for safety and human dignity,” he added.
He assured that the FRSC will continue to engage transport unions to promote responsible practices across Katsina State, and urged all stakeholders to embrace safe and respectful road usage.
“Road safety is everyone’s business. The government has made significant investments in infrastructure, and it is only right that we play our part by promoting a safer, more respectful, and prosperous environment for all,” he added.
