Gen Hassan Katsina Memorial: Group Calls Out Leaders Working Against Citizens’ Interest

A group, New Vision Development Initiative, has expressed concern about the continued stagnation of the country, blaming it on the suuccessive crops of leaders working at cross purpose with the interest of citizens.
The Chairman, Board of Trustees of the group, retired Colonel Lawal Gwadabe, said this at a press conference in Kaduna to mark the 30th anniversary of the death of General Hassan Usman Katsina.
Gwadabe said that the country must retrace its steps and embrace the valuable attributes of selfless service to the nation as demonstrated by the country’s founding fathers.
“Leadership is a responsibility and not a throne or elevated position that our powers to be seemed to feel. Leadership is a burden, and greatness will only come to us individually and collectively, if we all discharge our responsibilities in the little compartment of societal life in which we find ourselves.
“The leaders and followers all have a responsibility to perform and move the nation forward. If we have to copy the leadership style of our predecessors, because they succeeded, so be it.”
Gwadabe emphasised that no nation ever make any great progress without both leaders and citizens “galvanising through sacrifices to get favourable outcomes”.
“We must therefore go back to the lessons of the achievements and sacrifices of our founding fathers. That will offer us the beacons we require to retrace our steps for the good of our region and the country in general.”
The group’s BOT chairman said Nigeria should develop a mechanism to engage the expertise of retired leaders, so as to input their experiences in government decision making. “We need these pool of expertise in order to sustainably develop as a nation,” he added.
Gwadabe a former military Governor of Niger State said the group is committed to promoting the leadership ideals and philosophy of late General Hassan so as to galvanise current leaders to do the right thing.
