GOC Hands Over 220 Guns, 1,874 Ammunition Recovered In Plateau To Small Arms Control Centre
The Special Task Force Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) has handed over arms and ammunition recovered from criminals during its operations to the National Centre For The Control of Small Arms And Light Weapons (NCCSALW).
A total of 220 small Arms and light weapons, 1,874 rounds of ammunition and 83 cartridges were recovered from criminal elements by troops in Plateau and parts of southern Kaduna State.
This was contained in a statement issued by Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Information Officer, Operation SAFE HAVEN.
He stated that the General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, handed over the recovered weapons to an NCCSALW official on Sunday in Jos.
He said the recovery of the weapons was part of efforts to stop the senseless bloodletting and insecurity occasioned by the proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons in communities.
The Commander, therefore, urged members of the public to support Government to end the illicit trade in small arms and their circulation.
General Oyinlola said Operation SAFE HAVEN has recorded tremendous successes in stemming criminal attacks on communities and individuals through kinetic and non-kinetic means in its area of responsibility.
Responding, the Director-General, NCCSALW, Abdul Adamu, represented by his Deputy, thanked the OPSH for the giant strides recorded against armed criminals, and efforts deployed towards addressing the proliferation of illegal arms within the Joint Operations Area.
Adamu implored the public to support the Federal Government to ensure the complete eradication of the circulation of illegal arms within communities.
