Gov. Buni supports 1,000 Yobe farmers with agricultural inputs

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has distributed agricultural inputs to 1,000 farming households, including Internally Displaced Persons from Mandunari in Gujba Local Government Area and their host communities.
Speaking at the Government House in Damaturu, Buni noted that in spite of the fact that Mandunari remains the only ward in Yobe State yet to be resettled, its people have shown great determination to return to their ancestral homes.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring the safe, voluntary, and dignified return of all IDPs by investing in infrastructure, security, housing, healthcare, and education.
The support packages for the rainy season include improved cowpea, maize, okra, groundnut, millet, and rice seeds, fertilizer, insecticides and herbicides, knapsack sprayers, hoes, and cutlasses.
For the dry season, farmers will receive water pumps and improved onion, tomatoes, cabbage, lettuce, and pepper seeds.
“The Yobe State Government has already invested over $4 billion in agricultural programmes across 178 communities, providing tractors, fertilizers, and other inputs to boost food security,” the governor said.
He said that the government, in collaboration with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, will support additional 2,000 farming households in Gaidam, Tarmuwa, and Damaturu with farming inputs and livestock.
Buni added that smallholder farmers will also receive training in climate-smart agriculture and animal husbandry, while under the Durable Solutions Programme, 1,000 farmers trained by the Ministry of Livestock Development will receive small grants to sustain their livelihoods.
“We remain committed to ensuring no community is left behind. Every displaced person deserves a fair opportunity to rebuild their lives in safety and dignity,” the governor stated.
