Gov. Idris approves N1.2bn for critical projects in education sector
Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has approved the release of about N1.2 billion for critical projects in the education sector.
The governor also ordered the immediate payment of ₦695,936,660.00 outstanding registration fees for Kebbi state students studying across the country for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The state Commissioner for Higher Education, Isah Abubakar Tunga, made this known at a press conference on Thursday in Birnin Kebbi.
He explained that ₦230,205,981.96 out of the N1,2 billion would be utilised to renovate three students hostels at the College of Health Science and Technology in Jega,
The Commissioner said ₦251,525,065 would be used to provide essential facilities and equipment for the take-off of the newly established College of Midwifery in Ambursa.
These include Library, Demonstration Room, ICT, Sick Bay, Physical Sciences Laboratory and Microbiology Laboratory.
Tunga said the landmark intervention was a demonstration of Governor Idris’ unwavering dedication to expanding access to quality education and strengthening the capacity of tertiary institutions in the state to compete favourably with their counterparts nationwide.
He emphasised that education remained a long-term investment and the foundation of sustainable progress, as such the government would spare no resources to safeguard the future of the younger generation.
