Gov. Idris to rebuild homes of villagers displaced by Lakurawa terrorists
Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, has pledged to support villagers displaced by Lakurawa terrorists in Arewa Local Government Area of the state to rebuild their homes.
The governor, who visited the camp housing the displaced villagers on Wednesday in Kangiwa, said the government is making all the necessary arrangements to resettle them in their towns and villages.
He promised that the government would take necessary measures to ensure that the victims return to their homes within the next two weeks.
Dr. Idris promised that the people would be assisted with funds to rebuild their houses and bounce back to life.
The Syndicate reports that the Lakurawas terrorists on Saturday attacked Birnin Debe, Dan Marke and Tambo where they killed 11 people and set ablaze one of the villages.
Dr. Idris said that the visit was to condole with the victims, and for him to get first-hand report on what happened, so as to guide the government on the proactive action to take.
The governor bemoaned the loss of many lives and property, but commended security agencies for doing their best to bring the situation under control.
He noted that the attacks were usually launched from neighbouring Sokoto State and Niger republic, and urged the security agencies to prevent further attacks.
The governor commended the Chairman of Arewa LG for setting up the IDP camp, and directed the immediate provision of additonal 100 bags each of rice and millet to the camp, as well as a cow be slaughtered at least four days in a week for the victims.
He also directed the provision of children’s wears, wrappers and two rams to each woman who put to bed at the camp for robust naming ceremonies.
Earlier, the Chairman of Arewa Local Government, Alhaji Sani Aliyu, commended the Governor for taking urgent action to bring the ugly situation under total control.
Aliyu recalled that a similar attack penultimate week resulting in the loss of six lives.
He stated that relief assistance was given to the victims, adding that families of those who died or were injured each received N500,000 assistance, while the SSG has brought fifty bags of rice for the feeding of the displaced persons at the camp.
Some of the victims, Aliyu Sani Birnin Debe, Buhari Muhammad and Halima Musa narrated how the bandits entered their villages killed residents, set ablaze houses and caused mayhem.
They thanked the governor for the sympathy visit and appealed for more relief assistance and security.
