Gov Yusuf lauds Tinubu for release of detained minors
Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano, has lauded President Bola Tinubu for promptly releasing 76 minors arrested in connection with the August 2024 “EndBadGovernment protest.
Yusuf said this at Muhammadu Buhari Special Hospital where the minors were taken after they returned to Kano.
The Governor expressed his sincere appreciation to President Tinubu, acknowledging his compassionate gesture towards the children.
“I was unaware of the minors’ arrest until they were arraigned at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
“Upon learning of the situation, I promptly directed the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to take charge of the case,” he said.
The Governor also commended all those who contributed in one way or the other in ensuring the minors’ safe return as well as their parents for their fervent prayers and demonstration of maturity throughout this challenging period,
He assured that his administration would do everything possible to reunite the children with their parents and provide them with essential support to engage in small-scale businesses.
He also emphasized the importance of education saying that he would ensure the children return to school to contribute to the state’s development.
He warned them to desist from engaging in acts capable of destroying their future as they would be given all the necessary support to enable them become good citizens.
He said the 76 minors will remain in the hospital for four to five days to enable the team to medical doctors asses their physical and mental health before being reunited with their parents.
Meanwhile, the 73 Kano minors returned home via arrived at Mallam Aminu International Airport aboard the Max Air plane on Tuesday night.
The plane which also flown Yusuf, touched down around 9:57pm,
Earlier in the evening, Yusuf, had received 73 of the 76 detained minors, who had been released on the orders of President Bola Tinubu Tuesday morning.
Among those who received the minors include the State Deputy Governor, Abdul Salam Gwarzo, Speaker of the State Assembly, Alhaji Isma’ila Falgore, commissioners and other top government functionaries as well as politicians.
The minors were immediately taken in three buses to Muhammadu Buhari Special Hospital where a team of medical professionals has been designated to assess the physical and mental health of the released minors.
