Gov. Yusuf recruits 2,000 new staff in education sector
Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming the education sector with the official distribution of permanent and pensionable appointment letters to 2,000 newly recruited personnel.
The large-scale recruitment includes 1,600 school watchmen and 400 specialised Mathematics teachers deployed across secondary schools in the state.
This is contained in a statement by the spokesperson for the governor, Malam Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa in Kano.
Dawakin Tofa described the initiative as a major milestone in the administration’s ongoing education reforms.
The ceremony took place at the Coronation Hall, Government House Kano.
Yusuf said the appointments represent a bold step in rebuilding and strengthening the education sector, reiterating that education has remained the administration’s top priority from inception.
“Today marks a significant step in our collective journey to rebuild and strengthen the education sector in Kano State. From the very first day, we made it clear that education remains our top priority,” he said.
The Governor said that no society can grow beyond the quality of its education system, stressing the importance of investments in welfare, infrastructure, and human resources.
On the recruitment of 400 Mathematics teachers, Yusuf explained that the decision was aimed at addressing critical subject shortages.
“Mathematics forms the foundation of science, technology, and innovation. Strengthening this area is a major step toward building the next generation of engineers, scientists, and professionals who will shape Kano’s future,” he said.
He added that the deployment of 1,600 watchmen is a direct response to the need for improved security across public schools, aligning with the administration’s commitment to protecting pupils, teachers, and facilities.
Yusuf also charged the newly appointed staff to uphold professionalism, discipline, and dedication in their various roles.
“This opportunity comes with responsibility. Your performance will directly impact the quality of education in Kano State,” he said.
He said that the State of Emergency declared on the education sector is already yielding tangible results, assuring that government will continue to invest in infrastructure, teacher training, and strong accountability systems to restore excellence in public education.
