Gov Yusuf signs Kano’s N1.4 trn 2026 budget into law


Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State on Wednesday signed the state’s N1.477 trillion 2026 budget into law.
Speaking at the ceremony, Yusuf urged members of his cabinet to strengthen their support for the administration and demonstrate renewed commitment to the government’s development agenda.
He said that the state’s 2025 budget recorded over 80 per cent performance, with notable progress in capital project execution as well as key interventions in the education and health sectors.
Yusuf said the 2026 budget underscored his administration’s focus on infrastructure development and efficient service delivery.
He said that the State House of Assembly, after detailed scrutiny, reviewed the original figure upward from N1.3 trillion to N1.477 trillion.
Yusuf pledged that all appropriated funds would be judiciously utilised, stressing that the benefits of government policies and programmes would be felt in all parts of the state.
He also revealed plans by the state government to immortalise two members of the Kano State House of Assembly who died in the line of duty, describing their deaths as a painful loss to the state.
“The amended budget captures critical infrastructural development needs, and we are fully prepared to implement it in the best interest of the people of Kano State,” the governor said.
Earlier, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Mr Ismail Falgore, said lawmakers engaged extensively with ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), as well as other key stakeholders, before passing the appropriation bill into law.
Falgore said that although the initial budget was N1.3 trillion, it was increased to N1.477 trillion after careful consideration. He said that recurrent expenditure accounted for 29 per cent of the budget, while capital expenditure was 71 per cent.
He expressed confidence that the amended budget, if effectively implemented, would enhance socio-economic development and improve the welfare of the people.
