Group launches tree planting campaign in Kano to fight desertification
The Bichi Development Association in Kano State, tagged Fitilar Jama’ar Bichi, has reaffirmed its determination in fighting desertification in the local government area.
The Chairman of the association, Alhaji Rilwanu Malikawa said this at the launch of 2025 tree planting campaign organized by the association in Bichi central modern market on Thursday.
Malikawa said the association had provided hundreds of seedlings for distribution to various parts of the Local Government Area for planting.
He said the association initiated the program in 2024bas part of its contributions in fighting desertification, erosion, pollution and climate change in the area.
He urged management of the market and other areas that had been selected for the program to ensure they protect the trees in their domain.
In his message, the Bichi local government council chairman, Hamza Mai Fata, represented by the General Manager, Bichi Central modern market, Garba Tukur commended the association for its commitment in coming up with meaningful programs that would enhance the lives of the people in the area.
Also Speaking, the District Head of Bichi and Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Mannir Sunusi, represented by his secretary, Malam Idi Shitu urged village and ward heads in the area to support the program and take it to their respective domains.
On his part, the guest speaker Ustaz Rabi’u Sadiq spoke at length on the significance of planting trees and quoted the Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) on the reward of anybody that had planted a tree after his lifetime.
Responding, the Chairman of Bichi central Modern market Alhaji Abubakar Bichi thanked the Association for choosing the market to launch the exercise and assured that all trees planted in the market premises will be fully protected by the management of the market.
