Group tasks Northern lawmakers on projects
A group,the Northern Restoration Movement(NRM), has urged members of the National Assembly from the North to ensure the completion of critical federal projects in the region.
This is contained in a statement signed by the group’s National Coordinator, Malam Abdullahi Yahaya, and its Secretary General, Mr Ibrahim Kabara in Kano on Saturday.
“They should prioritize the completion of critical projects that directly touch the lives of the people they are representing, and not just sit on the surface only supporting submissions from their colleagues from other parts of the country,” it said.
The group listed the projects to include the dredging of River Niger which it described as a vital project for maritime activities in the region and which would create job opportunities for the teeming youths in the region.
It also called for the completion of Kolmani Petroleum Project in Bauchi/Gombe,the Ajaoukuta Steel Complex, the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway and the Mambilla Power Project.
Additionally,the group tasked the federal lawmakers to pursue the resuscitation of all moribund industries as well as safeguard all existing Federal Government projects and infrastructure in the region and stop any attempt to relocate them.
It asked the lawmakers to ensure that justice and equity are done in all federal appointments.
“Our representatives should always speak with one voice and make sure that they support any motion that promotes unity and progress in the country.
“We also remind all elected officials from the Northern Region to always articulate their submissions within the provisions of the country ‘s constitution and refuse to be intimidated by anybody.
“They should come together and make sure that democracy survives, devoid of any selfishness and high-handedness.
“The Northern Restoration Movement will continue to advocate for the rights and interests of Northern Nigeria and Nigeria’s unity, cohesion and progress,and at the same time frown at and oppose any move or action that negates these principles,” the group added.
