Jigawa Social Protection Platform (JISOP) has urged the state government pay the reviewed social security allowance to the 11,480 people living with disabilities and the elderly registered under the programme.
A statement by the JUSOP chairman, Comrade Shu’aibu Musa Kafingana said though Governor Umar Namadi had approved the reviewed package, no payment has been made.
Under the reviewed package, each of the beneficiaries will receive N10,000 monthly as against N7,000, while the number of beneficiaries in each of the 27 local government areas was raised from 150 to 200 indigent persons.
“We are calling on the relevant ministries, agencies and parasitatals to work hard for the speedy implementation of this great effort approved by the governor, as it will address a lot of challenges including, poverty, insecurity among many other challenges,” the statement added.
It commended the governor for introducing amendment to the state Social Security Law, which facilitated the inclusion of 20 elderly persons from each of the 287 political wards in the state as beneficiaries under the scheme.
