Gunmen have razed Gurjaje and Malari villages in Fika Local Government Area of Yobe State and left the people of the communities in a traumatized situation, on Monday.

Sources from the area said the attack was perpetrated by suspected herdsmen on reprisal mission against the villagers following a push back by the communities when their watermelon farms were encroached on by cattles belonging to the herders in January.

Though casualties are still uncertain, the invading herdsmen succeeded in burning down several houses ing the two villages.

Meanwhile, the state Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has commiserated with Gurujaji and Malari communities over the attack.

A statement by his media aide, Mamman Mohammed, said the government has upscaled security measures in the area.

“The government in collaboration with security agencies and vigilante groups, has taken more measures to ensure peace and security in the area.”

He said that no energy will be spared in pursuing the intruders, assuring that “they will be pursued and defeated by the grace of God.”

“The intruders were reported to have ran into Gurjaji community, setting houses and food stores ablaze.

“The governor has directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to provide relief materials to the victims of the attack,” Mamman said.
