Hadejia LGA Receives 58,650 Polio Vaccine Doses

The Hadejia Local Government Area of Jigawa State has received 58,650 doses of polio vaccine for the final round of the 2025 polio immunisation exercise, which commenced earlier this week.
This was disclosed by the Hadejia Primary Healthcare Development Manager, Alhaji Salisu Manu Gujungu, in an interview with The Syndicate.
According to him, the vaccines were supplied by the Jigawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (PHCDA).
Gujungu said the local council is targeting 50,311 eligible children across its 11 political wards in the area and has deployed 58 ad-hoc vaccination teams, who have continued to surpass their daily targets.
“We vaccinated 10,193 children on Day 1, 10,382 on Day 2, and about 11,000 on Day 3, against our daily targets of between 8,700 and 9,000,” he said.
“We have so far achieved over 75 per cent coverage for polio and routine immunisation based on the available data.”
Gujungu added that non-compliance had dropped drastically, with only one resistant household recorded, which was resolved with the intervention of traditional leaders.
He also revealed that 420 cases of child absence were recorded in the first three days of the exercise, out of which 360 had been resolved. The remaining 60 children were out of town for ceremonies, but arrangements had been made to reach them on the fourth day.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Hadejia Local Government Council, Hon. Ahmed Abba Ari, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the exercise. He noted that over 420 cases of non-compliance and child absence recorded in the first two days were successfully resolved by Day 3.
Speaking after the Day-3 evening debriefing at the PHC office, the chairman said the council had provided all necessary logistics to ensure the success of the exercise.
He added that beyond the ₦3 million obligatory contribution from each of the 27 LGAs in the state, Hadejia also offered additional support in cash and kind, which he described as a major factor behind the impressive results.
Hon. Ari reaffirmed the council’s commitment to strengthening primary healthcare delivery in line with Governor Umar Namadi’s 12-Point Agenda. He commended members of the Immunisation Mobilisation Committee and other stakeholders for their dedication, which contributed to achieving 75 per cent coverage so far.
