Herders Attack 4 Communities, Injure 8 in Jigawa

The Police Command in Jigawa has confirmed the attack on four communities by herdsmen in Jigawa state.
The Syndicate reports that the attack occurred barely a week after the state government a peace agreement between herdsmen and farmers in the state.
According to the police, the attack occurred in Birninkudu, Dutse and Kiyawa local government areas.
This was contained in a statement issued by the command’s public relations officer, DSP Lawal Shiisu, on Saturday in Dutse.
“Information revealed that herdsmen in large numbers armed with bows and arrows, matchets and sticks invaded Baranda village and attacked the villagers”.
“The villagers rose up in defence of themselves, resulting in the injuries of eight of them. They were rushed to the Dutse General Hospital for medical attention.”
He said that the herders had earlier attacked Kalai, Waza and Katanga villages.
Adams said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmed T. Abdullahi, had visited the affected villages to sympathize with them and emphasize the need to resolve the situation and promote peace building.
“The Commissioner of Police interacted with the major stakeholders of both herders and farmers on the need for collaboration, synergy, tolerance, and understanding of each other.
“Also on the need to avoid taking laws into their hands and to report any wrongdoing, including mischief, encroachment of cattle route and others offences to the nearest police or other security agencies, for immediate action”.
According to him, the interaction was fruitful as all concerned pledged to embrace peace and dialogue.
Shiisu said mobile policemen and tactical teams have been deployed to the affected communities to prevent further attacks.
