Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman says the ministry has concluded all the necessary paper work on the payment of the 36-month salaries owed 1,800 teachers of unity schools.
The teachers were recruited in 2018, 2019, and 2020 as education officers and posted to schools, but were not paid.
The delay in their payment was initially placed on logistics problems at the IPPIS, and later on the ministry for failing to transmit the records of the recruited teachers to the Budget Office, Ministry of Finance, and Accountant-General’s office.
Tahir however said the delay was over as the necessary paper work had been completed and the files of the affected teachers sent to the Ministry of Finance.
The minister spoke on the sidelines of a three-day EdTech Conference organised by Mastercard Foundation in Abuja.
“The issue of teachers’ salary is already with the Budget Office and Ministry of Finance. So hopefully, they will be paid.
“I can’t tell exactly when their money will be paid. We don’t pay in the Ministry of Education, but we have done the paper work, it is already in finance. Hopefully, very soon, they will get their money,” the minister said.
