Hundreds of members of the ruling New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of Kano State.
The defectors were received by Kano state Secretary of APC, Alhaji Ibrahim Zakari Sarina, who commended them for their courage in taking the bold decision to leave the NNPP.
Sarina said the way people have been trooping into APC in Kano state, was a clear testimony of the failure of the NNPP led government in the state.
He said, “Be patient, we know you are not happy with the way and manner the affairs of Kano State are being conducted.
“As you decamped to our party, we are sure many of you were at one point members of APC, you are opportune to have witnessed the differences between the two. Be rest assured, you are welcome.”
According to him, the NNPP which came into power in the state by accident, will not last beyond 2027.
“As I welcome you into our great party, I urge you and all good members of the party to unite and work together to help in liberating Kano state from the tyranny of bad leadership disturbing our dear state today.
“We must work together in achieving this goal. Therefore let’s forgive each other, let’s continue to build the confidence of Kano state people on the philosophy of our party that has answer for our current social and economic quagmire,” Sarina added.
A former member representing Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal constituency, Mustapha Bala Dawakin Kudu welcomed the defectors and said they should be ready to reclaim Kano state for the APC in the 2027 general election.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, a former state assembly candidate Suleiman Dalibi said over 12,000 NNPP members from 303 polling units in the 15 political wards of Dawakin Kudu constituency joined the APC.
According to him, they left the NNPP because it has only led in disparaging people, and destroying the state’s tradition and common heritage.
“So, my political associates and I have decided not to continue on this wrong track of NNPP, and we have now joined a party of patriotic and good leaders who have the people, state and the nation in their heart.
“As we join APC today, we promise to be faithful members and dedicate ourselves to the development of the party, and achieving it’s ultimate goals of making Kano state prosperous and great,” Dalibi stated.
