Although they took cover to avoid the fumes from the gases, the protesters returned to continue with the mass action against bad governance and hunger in the country.
In Jigawa where a 24-hour curfew was imposed by the State Government, hundreds of youths defied the order and continued with the protest against hardship for the second day in Dutse, the state capital.
A combined team of security agencies battled with the protesters around Zai area, blocking them accessing the commercial and other areas of the state capital.
The protesters chanted anti-government slogans and defied the teargas fired to desperse them.
Also in Shuwarin, thousands of youths who regrouped and continued with the demonstrations for the second day running, were prevented from advancing into the heart of the state capital by security agents who mounted barricades and fired teargas to disperse them.
In Gumel, reports indicated that the situation was relatively calm as security agents blocked major roads and prevented protesters from regrouping.
In Osun state, residents also stormed major streets of Osogbo in continuation of the #EndBadGovernance protest.
The protesters insisted that they would not stop until government meets their demands.
Speaking, the coordinator of Coalition of Concerned Nigerian Citizens, Ajala Adetunji called for reinstatement of corruption free subsidy regime to reduce “hunger, poverty and bad policy that is affecting all of us. We are here not because of any political affiliation, not because anybody is given a dime, what we have seen is a function of the people and the community that we belonged to.
“The youth population is the largest population and they are the one suffering most. The office of the citizen is the highest office in the land.
“We are not afraid of anybody. What we have come to do is to exercise our rights. According to the constitution of Nigeria, we are here to establish what we are passing through. Many people are saying we should not come out. Why are they saying that.
“What we are fighting for is for the people. Petrol price is N800 today. It is not a question of either APC or PDP. What we are passing through in this country is affecting everybody.
“Tinubu should review the bad policies. We are hungry. The protest is going to last for ten days. We are going to review our own in Osun because of Osun-Osogbo festival.”
Also, the Chairman, Committee for Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, Emmanuel Olowu said that the federal government should probe past and present Nigeria leaders to recover what they looted from the national treasury.
He said that the recovered loot should be deposited in a special account to fund education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
According to Olowu, government should embark on massive investment in public works and industrialization that will help employ more Nigerians.
The protest in Osun was orderly as security personnel provide cover for the protesters.
